Take the bus

Posted on Jul 8, 2025

My days have felt sped up lately; my attention flying all over the place, my stress levels high even though there was not really too much to worry about, drowning in a sea of uncertainty, longing for a fixed point in my reality to cling to. Needed a reset.

Enter taking the long-distance bus. The several hour-lasting teleport. The quiet place where you can just turn off and focus on nothing else than sleeping and breathing. The place of excuses for when someone wants to have a call and you can just tell them “sorry, travelling”. The place of safety; with everyone around you minding their own business, sleeping or reading or working. The adult equivalent of falling asleep in the back seat of the car while you’re driving from holiday with your parents. The place which trades your physical back health for a mental health reset. The safe spot where the only thing you need to focus on is that annoying person reclining their seat and encroaching your personal space.

Before I have to get up, stretch my aching neck and realize how much my back hurts, I just want to say: I love taking the bus.
